Free Functional Movement Screening For Your Kids

If you are a parent like me, chances are you may want your kids to play sports, dance or do gymnastics. But are you concerned about them getting hurt?

Playing sports could be causing your kids long-term pain and dysfunction. Why? Because movement deficiency or muscle dysfunction is rarely a single event or a single cause its accumulative. A large amount of kids/athletes are performing high-level activities even though they are inefficient in their basic fundamental movements, without even knowing it.

These kids/athletes are putting fitness on dysfunction. Don’t let yours be one of them! This is a recipe for disaster and in today’s competitive environment, this can ruin your kids chances of being injury-free or playing at college level.

Plus, your kid’s body from birth, naturally go through a sequence of development or milestones to properly function and develop into adulthood. Any delay in development from inappropriate/over-use activities or training introduced here can have long term implications and other lifelong problems. Don’t let this happen to your kids.

Identifying movement risks

Nothing is more frustrating to us as massage therapists than when we see kids being pushed too hard by their peers and/or coaches who are not emphasizing the importance of flexibility! Most parents don’t understand or know when their kids are doing inappropriate training or are training with dysfunctional weak links.

We have seen kids who are 14 – 16 years old, who play football come in for shoulder or low back pain but cannot even bend over to touch their toes or reach over-head with their arms with winching in pain. This is an identifier to a potential problem more serious than their current pain they have may.

If you want your kids to play sports, dance or swim and if you want your kids to be the best at their chosen activity or sport but this can only happen if you or them take the time to identify movement dysfunctions or limitations. As parents, we need to choose the best path for them don’t let your kids become injury prone because of poor mechanics and a failure to recognize potential problems bring them in to see us, we can help.

Functional Movement Screening:

The Functional Movement Assessment is a screening process that identifies poor movement patterns caused by muscle strength and flexibility imbalances.

These muscle imbalances can cause compensatory changes in multiple areas of the body resulting in poor efficiency or “energy leaks”. Such inefficiencies can increase the potential for injury or be the root cause of pain.

A Functional Movement Assessment recognizes meaningful impairments. It provides the clinician or therapist with the information necessary to:

1. Identify the root cause of musculoskeletal pain.

As a response to or in the presence of pain, the body will compromise or alter movement to accomplish a particular task. These dysfunctional movement patterns can lead to protective movement resulting in decreased range of motion, muscle length changes and declines in strength.

2. Enhance performance and prevent injury.

Many athletes have basic movement pattern asymmetries and limitations without associated pain. The identification and correction of these patterns cannot only improve an individual’s ability to excel in his or her sport, but can also reduce that athlete’s risk of injury in the future.

Movement is more than muscles moving bones. Movement involves an exchange of information between the brain, spinal cord, and muscles. Assessment of the components of this system (posture, strength, flexibility, balance) and how they work together (movement) can pinpoint the weak links in the system.

Based on the findings of the Functional Movement Assessment, focused treatment and corrective exercises will be provided to correct dysfunctional movement patterns.

Get Your Kids Screened For Free (valued at $40)

Being a dad of two little ones himself, Robert Vignoli is concerned about the training and high-level activity that your kids are being pushed to doing these days. Most of your kids are not paying enough attention to flexibility, mobility or having a solid base of stability but they continue to train. As a parent, you should be informed and concerned for your kids wellbeing! This is why he is offering to screen your kids (under the age of 18) for free. This is a $40 value!
